Rebecca Courtright is a native Virginian, growing up in Loudoun County. She spent 7 years in Rochester, NY recovering and healing. She relocated back to Virginia in 2019 with plans of finishing her book and advocating for victims of sexual violence. She is a wife and a mother to 2 sons. In her free time, she loves to garden, volunteer, attend music concerts, and plans events.
Rebecca joined the RAINN speaker's bureau in June of 2011. Since then, she has participated in many advocacy opportunities. In 2012 she shared her story with the End the Silence Campaign project, In Our Own Words. She also participated in the Clothesline Project in Leesburg, Virginia. In 2014, she published her story on Brave Miss World. In 2016, she wrote a section for the book, 'You Can Help: A Guide for Family and Friends of Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Assault'. From 2016 to 2018, she advocated for the passage of 'The Repeat Sexual Predator Prevention Act' in the state of Maryland. Governor Hogan signed this into law May 2018. In September 2019, Rebecca attended the screening for 'Unbelievable' a Netflix show detailing a series of rapes in Washington state and Colorado. The screening was held at the Hart Senate Office building where Rebecca had the chance to meet Rep. Carolyn Maloney and Rep. Ann Wagner. Rep. Wagner shared that she is also a survivor. In January of 2020, Rebecca testified to the Virginia Senate and House committees on behalf of SB 373, HB 475 to expand the state wide access of forensic nurses. The bills will also create a network of forensic nurses, yearly training, recruitment at nursing programs, and establish protocols and guidelines for treatment of survivors. In May of 2023, Rebecca participated in the RAINN Congressional Day of Action advocating for the passage of several bills aimed at protecting survivors of Child Sexual Assault Material (CSAM) and holding tech companies accountable for these materials on their site as well as the Debbie Smith Act and Sexual Assault Kit Initiative that helps end the rape kit backlog and provides funding to solve cold cases discovered by tested kits. In April 2024, Rebecca participated in the RAINN Congressional Day of Action. The focus of this advocacy was to bring awareness and support of several bills to protect children from online predators and to amend the Family Leave Act (FMLA) to include victims of sexual violence.
